Robin Fourie, professional hunter while on safari in Niassa Mozambique

Hi, I’m Robin Fourie.

I grew up in South Africa and from a young age had a strong interest in the natural world, particularly plants, animals and the places they inhabit. That interest eventually led me to study Nature Conservation, completing both a diploma and later a B.Tech in Nature Conservation.

My career began in protected area management, working in private reserves and gradually moving into a conservation management position. It was during this time that I gained much of my practical experience with wildlife, including dangerous game and problem-animal situations, as well as working closely with clients and understanding the responsibilities that come with managing wildlife in these environments.

My approach to hunting comes largely from my conservation background. I see well regulated hunting as an important conservation tool, particularly in areas where the income generated from hunting contributes directly to the management and protection of large wildlife areas. When conducted responsibly; ethical and sustainable hunting, guided by science, can make a meaningful contribution to the continued protection of these landscapes and the wildlife they support.

That is the foundation on which I have built Robin Fourie Safaris, to offer quality hunting in wild places, while ensuring that the way we hunt contributes positively to the areas and wildlife that make these experiences possible.

Hunting Ethos

Moving into professional hunting was a natural progression from there. The guiding side of the profession was new territory, but understanding animals, their behaviour and the environments in which they live was something I had already spent years working with. I moved to the Lowveld in 2018 and have been based here ever since, working across protected area management, wildlife management and professional hunting.

Since 2022, I have been involved in hunting within the Associated Private Nature Reserves and the protocols and sustainable offtakes that govern hunting in these areas. Much of my time has been spent hunting throughout the APNR, gaining experience across its different landscapes and becoming familiar with the wildlife, conditions and challenges that come with hunting in large, free-ranging areas.
